It stands for better homes, more attractive home life, intelligent home making, and is the joy of Winthrop College. It is designed primarily to help Winthrop girls to overcome the difficulties of house-keeping and indirectly to aid in lessening the difficulties in all of the homes in our State, , especially country homes, no device | being used that is not available in I the country home. Conaemipnt.1v the hollow-wire svstem of BISHOP KILGO PRESIDES OVER M,L GONFERENOE SOUTH CAROLINA'S HIGHEST ECCLESIASTICAL OFFICIAL ON HIS NATIVE HEATH. Bennettsville, November 29:?Bishop Kilgo called the Methodist Conference to order Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock. In keeping with the time-honored custom, the membership of the Conference took part in the communion service, and spent an hour in exercises seen nowhere except at a Methodist annual Conference. At the altar this morning occurred an incident tiat will live forever in the memory of those who were present. Rev T J Clyde, one of the best fKA rAnfavannn troc IUVCU liiril K/l cue WMIIVU.UVV, MW the senior preacher on the Bennettsville circuit when the present Bishop, on his first appointment, served the same charge as junior preacher. Rev Mr Clyde came forward and knelt at the altar. The Bishop, overcome this morning with the memories of other days and the spiritual uplift of the sacred hour, threw his arms around the form of his life-long friend, and the two communed as only strong men can. Rev E 0 Watson was re-elected secretary of the Conference, with the following ass stants: Revs A E Holler, W L Wait and S B Harper. Rev R ETurnipseed was re-elected statistical secretary, with the following assistants: Revs Marion Auld, R E Sharpe and J R T Major. Rev. S P McGhee, of Laurens, got the floor, and in an attractive and striking manner presented Bishop Kilgo with a handsome gavel. The bowl is made of wood from the pulpit desk of the old church at Laurens, the birthplace of the Bishop. It was at that desk that the sainted father of the Bishop stood and preached. The handle of the gavel is made of locust from a tree on the campus of old Lander college. Bishop Kilgo was a close friend of Dr Lander and of Dr Jno 0 Willson.the president of Lander college, and has always taken great interest in the welfare of that institution. The silver mountings are presented by the Bennettsville church through its pas.tor, Rev R E Turnipseed. The remarks of the Bishop in accepting the gavel were characteristic and appropriate. The morning hou.' was taken up largely with the reports from the presiding elders. Bishop Kilgo seemed to be laying special emphasis upon the importance of the educational work of the church and required special reports along this line. The general reports of the presiding elders show large increase in member ship in the church during the past year, healthy growth in the mission work and improvement in church property, and the erection of many new churches, all the conference claims being generally reported as having been well met. The preachers of the Anderson, Charleston and Cokesbury districts were called and favorable reports from the respective presiding elders j being made, the several preachers were "passed." Detailed reports were not required from the ministers in charge at this time. Dr J D Hammond was introduced to the Conference and made a short address in behalf of 1'aine Institute. He showed the immediate needs sf I the school, and a collection was takI en amounting to ? The State. ! Draw up about the fire a little closer. IN ice in nere, even wucu the wind is high outside.
