Andrews, March 27:?Your scribe attended the demonstration of ditch digging with dynamite at or near Taft last Tuesday. Our county and Georgetown were well represented; the crowd was estimated at 600 to 700 men; quite a number of representative business men and farmers were present from Kingstree, Lake City. Greelyville, Andrews, Georgetown and all sections of the two counties. Also our County Commissioner and our competent Road Bogineer were present to look over our new road now under construction from Andrews to Trio. All the f people spoke in approving terms of our new thoroughfare. MrW H Andrews, the superintendent of the Georgetown & Westam railroad, placed a well equipped train at the disposal of the crowds all along the line of the G & W. He alto met a large crowd at Lanes and took them to and from the scene of the fire-works. Besides this accommodation, Mr Andrews furnished luncheon to all who would go to the eamps of Mr Tom Ford near Earls. The special train took the crowd from Taft to Earls, where the luncheon was served, which gave the people the opportunity to see our new road. But on the down trip from Trnft to Earls we found a large pile of cord wood on fire near the track, which made it impassable for our train; our crowd had, therefore, to walk for nearly a mile, but we went over the newly built road to Earls^ and while the men were eating, the railroad crew was repairing the burned portion of the track, z I don't think the demonstration was a full success with regard to ditching, but they did some good work blowing up stumps. Farmers will in the near future remove their Stamp* with dynamite. A negro lad in town, while riding his bicycle at high speed Saturday. went to cross the railroad track near town and fell from his Wheel. His head struck the railroad iron and he was knocked unconscious. He is not expected to lire. The accident happened within 200 yards of an approaching train, but some one standing nearby removed him from the track, otherwise he Would have been mangled by the train.
