Should he by chance be elected the joke would be on the people. Taking them all in all, they are a very good looking crowd; the candi-1 dates for Governor. Any one of I three, or possibly four, of the lot would doubtless make a very capable Chief Executive. Mr Hyatt certainly made friends here by \ !s plain, straight-forward, | business-like talk. We heard quite a number express the opinion that the people would make no mistake in electing Mr Hyatt Governor. *' ' x A? ^ ^rrVv + > it's a pretty gouu iuc? w n6uv Mr Tax Dodger, whom nearly all the i candidates want to take a fall out of, J but who is he and where can he be located? "Aye, there's the rub," as j Mr Hamlet very expressively puts it. I Mr E W Duvall of Cheraw was accorded a warm reception here and made a good impression. Mr C A Smith made a good, sensible talk, also. Either of these gentlemen would fill the place all right. For Adjutant General Mr W W Moore seems to have a walk-over. Everywhere they speak it is the same thing, they say. There isn't very much interest centered about this race, anyway. B B Evans caused a plenty of noise, but most of the applause seemed to be for his absent opponent, Mr Lyon. Mr Ellerbe is a vehement speaker, a good "mixer" and an adroit politician. These are the elements that give him a hold on "the boys." The average man doesn't mind a newspaper opposing his candidate till it begins to strike home then you hear the cry "unfair," "mudslinging," etc. Major Richardson, candidate for Adjutant Ceneral, delivers his speech in stentorian tones just as if he were commanding his battalion. He will probably find the voters not quite so well disciplined as the soldiers he commands. The "ovations" for Mr Ellerbe seem to be kind of petering out. Arrival of Passenger Trains at Klngstree.
