MAINLY ABOUT POLITICS. Kind of Material Needed for Office Holders. X I f Editor County Record:? Thi3 being election year and now ' within four or five months of our W primary. I want to give .ny \iews in .;. reference to how the people should ?r* vote and whom we should vote for, fit in view of the problems confronting | us at this time. ^ Now, brother farmer and laborer, ||# do you know that you have but little ^ voice in our present laws, more especially our national laws? Our government is being taken control of day by day by the oppressive trusts; our officials are being elected by the masses of the } pie and these officers are being totally controlled by capitalists and the trusts. Now, what will be the outcome of this within 11) years? It will be just as it is to-day in the old country?our sons and daughters will be rentihg their homes from these same trusts. They wi'l not be allowed to own their hones, but be a slave of the i trusts. Now, let's come nearer home?to our own State and county laws. Three members of the Legislature and one Senator are the most important officers to concern us. What kind of men shal1 we try to elect to these important positions? Do we need capitalist attorneys, smooth-tongued professional men? No, I say, we need the old true and tried farmer and large tax-payer, the one who produces the world's supply of food and pays the honest part of taxation. I -nean no reflection on the above-named men; they are good, honest men, but they cannot legislate for our working people. Let our good farmers of old Williamsburg county come out and offer for those important offices. Let men pass a new tax law who return every dollar's worth of property they own | and at 100 per cent of its value, and vote for men who will give their word upon their honor that they will see to it that our tax laws shall be so revised that the burden of taxation sha" be equal to all men and will vouch for the enactment of laws ^ that will benefit our people at large and leave alone the poor, down-trod? den game law and laws in reference to wire fences on the public high - - _ ?11 ^ k<. way. J Tie auromoone is miuncu uj law to i in on the road and cause horses t run away without any protection of law; then put a restriction over the wire fence. Now, Mr Editor, in reference to the deer aw, I would like our lawmakers to explain this part of that law: the act reads that no femak' ^eer shall be chased or killed at any time during the year. How can a hunter teach his dogs that to chase a female deer is ungallant while hunting? Also howcan the hunter himself distinguish the difference in the sex with the deer fifty yards away and then ofttimes running? When the female deer is killed it will have to be termed by thecourt a "lawful accident?"what say you, Mr Deer Hunter? * The writer has just made mention of a few of these acts of the Legislature to show our people how worthless those laws will be to our people at large. I don't know that our delegation is to be blamed and don't believe it is, and I believe our delegation sees this matter just as the writer does. Subscriber. Andrews, March 28. A Birth-day Party. Miss Stella Louise Wolfe invited about twenty-five little girls and boys last Saturday afternoon to help her celebrate her third birthday. X An egg hunt and out-door luncheon gave the little hostess - and her guests several hours of fun and frolic. All the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the occasion. ^ Worth a Dollar a Drop. Fred Patcheu, Maulius, N Y, writes:?'-For a long tstue I was effect with kidney trouble which caused an almost constant pain in my back and inflammation in my bladder. Other remedies did not even relieve me, but two fifty cent bottles of Foley's Kidney Kemedy completely cured me and I have not had any symptom* of kidney trouble for over two yea is." D C Scott. i 1. ^ . ? WILLIAMSBURG LED. Won Greatest Number of Prizes i for Rural Schools In 1909. Columbia, March 23:?The State board of education, at its meeting on Friday will take up the matter of prizes for the rural schools. Mr Swearingen stated to-day that at least $2,000 if not more, will be offered this year. Last year 135 schools competed, and the year before 93 were in the list. The following announcement has been issued: "There will be a large number of prizes offered this year by the South Carolina School Improvement association to the rural schools of the State making the most decided-* material improvement during i given length of time. There wj \ $2,000 offered in prizes last year $2,200 given the year bei About 225 schools entered the contest during those two years, and it is estimated that improvements made amounted to $250,000. "I cannot say definitely, until after the State board of education meets how many prizes will be . offered this year. There will probably be a greater number than ever before. The number to be given . and regulations governing the contest will be decided upon at that . time. . "It is to be hoped each county j will have a number of schools enter ^ the contest this year. ^ "Last year Williamsburg county j won the greatest number of prizes. j Greenville and Newberry came next, ^ each winning the same number. I (Signed) "Mrs W L Daniel, j "President S. C. School Improve- ] ment Association." ] "One of the Best.*' ' One of our county's best citizens, whose sound judgment we hold in high esteem and whose good opinion we appreciate as much as that of any man in Williamsburg county, ( took occasion in renewing his sub- 1 scription a few days ago to say !n part: "I have been so busy of late that I neglected this matter longer than I had intended.
