Mr J VV WadSworth, whose home is near Hartsville, spent the closing days of last week here with friends. Mr J S McClani has opened a live-stock business at the stand lately occupied by Mr .T M Truluck. Mr McClam returned last week from the West where he purchased a lot ' f horses and mules. Mr II B Cook is in charge of the business. Mr G F Stalvey spent several Jays recently at his old home in Horry county. The pupils in the music department of the high school, under the leadership of Miss Gibson, their teacher, gave a pleasing and well attended recital last Friday evening-. Mr II L Whitlock recently presented us with some sweet potatoes, three of which weighed 131 pounds. That they were raised in Williamsburg goes without saying. Last week Mr G R Bo wen lost a splendid horse. The animal was so frightened by a train that he dropped dead of heart failure. Mr U S Lucas spent Sunday in Florence. We are grateful to Mr JL P Carter for a sack of Spanish yams. Since Mr Carter is most probably the best farmer of his age in the county, it were superfluous to say anything of the quality of theSe potatoes. When this issue of The Record will have been taken from the press, the voice of many a gobbler will be still forever more. However, those engaged in the "stilling'' business will have a fullness of feeling. In The Record of last week, in conuectkm with court news, the statement was niatle that "Messrs Bass & Stalvey appeared for the x plaintiff,'' in the case of the Bank of i Lake City vs 1) E Motley. When this action was instituted last July the gentlemen named were the plaintiff's attorneys, which explains fully how the statement came to be made, but the copartnership was dissolved several months ago; and Mr Bass, who since then has continued the practice alone, is the attorney of the plaintiff.
