SEMINOLE CASES IN COURT. f President Garlington and Associates to be Tried in Columbia. Columbia. September 11:?The famous 'Seminole cases'' were brought up officially in court yester- , day when Solicitor Cobb handed out indictments, upon which the grand jury afterwards returned "true hill" in each case. The tirst charges against John Y Carlingtou and James Stobo Young "conspiracy, breach of trust with fraudulent intentions and larceny.'' The second charges "conspiracy and obtaining mouev and other property by false pretense and rep re- sentations" and the persons named are: J no Y <! aldington, James Stobo Young, C J llebert, Orville II llall, C J Cooper and B W Lac v. It will be observed that the names of M G Jeanes and J II Teague do not appear in the indictments, although their names had heretofore been connected with the case. (larlington was president of the Seminole Securities company, which was organized avowedly to finance an accident insurance company. J Stobo Young is Garlingtons cousin and, was secretary <>f the company. In one of his speeches Editor Edward Ward Carmack, who was most cowardly assassinated in the streets of Nashville, Tenn., by political thugs, thus refers to his beloved South, the land of his birth: "The South is a land that has known sorrows; it is a land that j has broken the ashen crust and j moistened it with its tears; a land ; scarred and riven by the plowshare of war and billowed with the graves j of her dead; but a laud of legend, a ; land of song, a land of hallowed and j heroic memories. To that land1 I Honey and Tar, and it stopped my cough, and I am now entirely well, and have gained twenty-eight pounds, all due to the good results from taking Foley's Honey and Tar." D C Scott. That Road Again. ! Editor County Recoid:? I notice the statement of M M ; Powell of Harpers relative to the public road from Uarton branch to Harmony churcii. Mr Powell says that I must have replied to his , article with some evil intent. I assure him such was not my purpose. Mrj ) .) Hrahum will testify to tliej : fact that he let the contract for working this road to the gentlemen f named in my former article, with the except ion of Johnson swamp,. for which he sad he would let the contract for building a bridge some time later. Mr Powell in his card i did not mention the excepted por- ' tion, which is in Johnson swamp,, for a bridge to be built, i Mr Powell positively denied Mr j (iraham's exemption of this road j and letting of contract, when the repairing contract of til'- road referred was completed and Mr (iralum had promised to let the contract for the building of a bridge across Johnson swamp. Mr Powell should have made his statement to that ef : feet and not included tl..* entire road ! in his condemnation. Mr Powell!1 I I surely will not deny tie* statement J; tb.it the road has been woiked. Vhen Mr W T Rowdl began 1 work on this road and summoned j out those who had not paid road tax, ( Mr Powell was among the number, who had not paid and lefused either to work on the said road oi pay his road tax. Mr Powell's case was in the magistrate's court some days ago. i As to the working of the said road, the expense was very small. Mr Wheeler took the contract for working the road from here to Harmony church for only $1S, while Mr Rowel 1 took the part to liar ton branch for .$30. Except a small piece in .lohnsoii swamp this road | did not need much work, as it had been worked very niceiy last year by MrC W Camlin, of this vicinity. The piece of road from here to Harmony church was ploughed and raked into the middle of the roadbed which will make it a good road for years, except as to tilling a few holes. The portion of the road from here to Barton branch was also worked bv Mr Camlin, who ditched ancMrained it and put the road iuto go^| traveling conditionAll the reptnr work needed this year was grubbing, filling \p holes and mending a few small bridges. tf ED LOON. Moody, September 13. (This road controversy is fast becoming boresome to the general ' public.
