At the time the accident occurred Dr Speissegger, according to the statement made by him to the police, had been following the trolley cai ^ -on the same track, and when the cat slowed down on the corner of Wentworth and Smith streets he also ap plied the brakes. Mr Cooper, he said, stepped off the trolley and made a few steps toward Beaufain street, but for some reason suddenly turned back. Dr Speissegger stated thai Mr Cooper seemed to hear his shout of warning and the tooting of the horn, but unfortunately also swerved to the right in his endeavor to get out of the path of the automobile, The auto knocked Mr Cooper dewn and passed over his body. It appeared that the injuries iuflicted bj the wheels were not serious, but thai Hp fr?rr>H with which his head struck the brick pavement inflicted a severe wound in the back of his head.. k? The accident was witnessed by 8 | ^number of people and the injured I man was at once taken to the citv I r hospital in a police ambulance.
