Venters, Jul\ 25: The annual celebration of the birth-day of Mr Simon Poston took place at his residence in the Prospect neighborhood of Williamsburg county on the 24th inst. It is a custom with Mr Poston's children at the annual return of his birth-day to assemble at his residence and participate in the \ celebrations of the day by giving an annual feast, and this was no exception to the rule, for it was a feast indeed. A ^ery elaborate and sumptuous repast was highly enjoyed by all present. This was furnished and prepared by the ehil dreti, and was appreciated by Mr Poston and his wife. This was Mr Puston's seventy-first birth-day and he is still hale and hearty, and all join in wishing the return of many more such happy events. Mr Poston has eight living children, four sons and four daughters, seven of whom are married. Oue son, Mr F Poston, was detained at home on account of illness in his family. Mr Poston has twenty-seven grandchildren, twfnty of whom were present to gladden the heart of their cand-parents. This was a grand y. Many years ago the energetic Professor Schwarz was conducting & musical society. They were studying Mendelssohn's "Elijah" and had reached the chorus, "Hear us, x>aai, hear, mighty god." The men's voices were booming out sonorously when the conductor cried out: "No, no! De dreadful vowel! Don't say B-a-l-e. Soften a leetle. Give de more musical sound Ball" Whereupon the chorus took up the strain again, "Hear us Bawl hear us Bawl!" But they quickly realised the peculiar fitness of the sentiment and broke down in laughter, to the great amazement of the little German, who never saw the joke, but who returned reluctantly to the old pronunciation.
