"Baby is dead", has but little effect upon the outside world, but ah! how much does it mean to those whose ba by be was! Nothing in all the world can bring that sharp, wrenching, despairing agony that comes when baby dies. Stilled forever the prattling tongue, the pattering feet and restless hands. Oh! God, pity those who know what this means. The Sundav-school of the * ~ Methodist church gave an Easter entertainment Sunday night, consisting of songs, recitations and readings appropriate to the occasion. The house was very crowded, even the standing room being largely occupied. The affair was pronounced a success. The berry business is getting lively now. About four car loads came in Monday, and this ! is only the beginning of the sea:son, which will not be at its j height for two weeks yet. Elijah White (colored) committed suicide at his home two miles from Greelyville about 1 o'clock p m, Monday, April 20, | shooting- himself in the side : with a shotgun. It is supposed that he was temporarily insane. Yet there seemed to be method in his madness, as he pulled the trigger of the gun by using a stick and emptied the contents into his body. A black man named White can scarcely be blamed for proving an exception to the rule that a negro never committs suicide. hfflg&Xi f mr SHOE OF SH( Some shoes give I the purchaser j style and very little I wear.
