In discussing the increasing serious problems which now. confronts newspaper publishers a^J over the country, The Fourth Estate, whose name sufficiently indicates its natureas publication, eipreeses the opinion that the worst sufl'et: ere will be those weeklies and semi- J weekl|es w&icb several years ago- redqqed..the subscription from $2.00 and $1.50 to $1.00. , "This unfortfinaite cut fri price," Says our contenrporsryr "occurred when the country was in tlie clutches of hard times, and the people were not able to payvtheir bifls. Now every subscription taken at that price is well nigh a financial loss. It will be at a loss when the new price of paper goes into effect. There is but oie thing for small publishers to do and that is to increase the price qf their paper. They should not expect to make the advance less than 50 cents on $1.00 subscriptions, and the 1 >n . same on 9i.ov raics. No subscriber ought to expect to to get a paper nowadays for 1 such a sum as $1.00. The print paper alone will be worth nearly that." That's the way it looks to us, is looking to more and more weekly and semi-weekly publishers and should shortly look to all the subscribers concerned.
