There are now on our books nearly 2,000 subscribers, many of whom have paid nothing in a year or longer. We ask all these delinquents to settle up as soon as possible. Each account is made out up to the nearest year or half year. It may be that some who get these statements have already paid; if so just call our attention to the fact and we will cheerfully make the correction. Miss Charlotte Fichtner of Hartford, Conn., is the guest of Mr and Mrs M F Heller. Several days of this weather will put the ice man and the straw hat out of business. Mr W G Thomas left Monday morning for Charleston, where he will attend the South Caro lina Medical College. Notwithstanding the fact that Monday was salesday and the ' first day of court, not a great . number of people was noted in town. We thank our friends who have paid their subscription. There are others, however, who so far seem to have forgotton that they owe us. Mrs W A Duncan of Columbia visiting is relatives in town. He was found guilty J of involuntary manslaughter 1 and sentenced to two years on ^ the county chain gang. 1 The case gf the State vs. 1 Thomas Prosser, indicted for 1 using a horse without the con- ' sent of the owner, was next \ called and tried. The jury found a verdict of not guilty. Tuesday morning at 9:30 ? o'clock, the case of the Slate vs ( Victor Emmanuel, indicted for ' assault and battery with intent to kill and also carrying con- I cealed a deadly weapon, was called, the evidence taken and | arguments made before v^I2 1 o'clock m. Judge Prince changed the jury at length and the^r retired to their room before the hour of recess, and remained 1 there until 11:30 p. m. before reaching a conclusion.
