8 8Lake City, August 30:?Mr ^HmHErviu Morris, whose death was augBB^8iouueed in The Record in the is8 8 sue of the 17th instant, was nearly thirty-one years of age. Of his im->v mediate family there reruaiu his father, two sisters and an equal number of brothers. The funeral took place on the 18th and the place of burial was the Lake City cemetery. The religious ? L 1 1 services, wmcn were ueiu iu mc Methodist church, were conducted by Rev J B Tray wick, the pastor. Lake City Lodge of Woodmeu took charge of the body and buried it. Tlie officers who conducted the ceremonies were: Master of Ceremouies A E Hill, Cousul Commander Geo G Watson, Captain r Alva Weaver, Adviser Lieutenant J C McElveen, Banker \\ L Askins. Clerk 15 Wallace .Jones, Jr., Escort J K Hatchell, Watchman E M Rodgvrs aud Sentry J M Brown. "1 he following were the pall lie.irers: H C Godwin, W E Cut ter, J L Thomas, G A Brown, . J M Tniluck and G A Ward. The beautiful ceremony of the Woodmen v as they committed to its narrow btd the body ?>f their first and only consul commander was indeed impressive. The flight of the white dove, that when liberated rose straight upward. was a beautiful symbol of the flight of the soul and in this case w_>. was peculiarly appropriate, for if the soul of the pure rise upward, the spirit of this man soared aloft straight as the flight of an arrow. In speaking of Mr Morris there I are 110 great deeds, as the world counts greatness, to tell. So [far as his public career is concerned, his life can be written in a very few words. Among strangers he attracted but little attention; of society he was no leader; in public assemblies he remained in the back? ground; in the business world he had 110 commercial rating; of poliB tics he scarcely knew the name, and \ vet I hardly think I ever kr.ew many ' great as he. W K .. t i? here written is uot urtten iu a spirit of fulsome flat'en , but impelled by a de, sire to pay a just tribute to the memory of this man, I would tel! my estimate of him. I knew him for some fifteen years and knew him as perhaps did very few others, and what is here written is not the platitudes of a vain eulogist, but the words of a friend who is constrained to ^put a value, which he believes is not fie Ph titious, upon the life of this man > now dead and gone. If there be beauty in truth, the character of Ervin Morris was fair to look upon; if there be virtue in adherence to right; then was this man virtuous; if there be any ; ?> .thing commendable in purity of act v ; and deed, then was this a life to be admired. He regarded existence of - more importance than to be worn away iu the grinding acquisition of fortune, and in the future he saw something more than the indolent enjoyment won by crushing the finer drT- instincts of uature. Devofiou to duty as he saw it was the leading principle of his life. He may have been mistakeu in his ideals, others being the judges; but from those ideals he did not wander. The influence of his mother cluug to him as closely in his manhood as in the ? . uays spent at her knees. If profane, &L indecent or unkind thoughts flitted through his mind, his tongue gave them 110 utterance. Any word of his mi;Jit be repeated with propriety ? . iti the umst refined presence. When he con hi not praise, he was dumb. He was a steward in the MethcUist church, a leader in the Sundayschool and a mainstay in every good ; work in his eir:!e and community. He was largely instrumental in organizing the local lodge of Woodmen aud w;i6 their first consul commander from the establishment of ^ his lodge to his death. He was educated largely at the Lake City High school and it was in the days when ; the diplomas of that sihool were recognized throughout *the State that this wiiter had the honor, and indeed it was an honor, to present to Mr Moiris his certificate of graduation; aud ic is with pride that his teacher feels that he had somewhat t#d.>with the splendid life and character of Mr Morris now rounded out and fixed for all eternity. If it be true that those who folI* low the Nazarene live again, then is this man not dead; if the Christian FOLEY: Will Cure Any Caa Not Be r. i 1111 IA Painless Cure Never resign yourself t 1| pains are curable.
