The building is a neat, live p-oorn cottage and is qintean addition Ppy to tti.it part of town. : 1 The town council is having a lot of work done on the streets, clean^ iug out ditches* etc., which very de-1 cidedly improves the appearance of; the town. The colored Odd Fellows' lodge is putting up a two-story building r on Mill street to be used for their hall. _ Mr W I Hodges, the station agent here, has has taken steps to erect a five room dwelling. Mr .J M McKoy has the contract and the work will commence as soon as the material can be put in place. You see our town is still building up. Dots-from Dock. v Dock, March 4: Fanners in this section seem to be somewhat dis bearteued on account of the cotton situation. I agrep with the editor of the News and Courier in his assertion that President [Roosevelt could help the South very much if lie would issuean address to the negroes advising them that their best field of action is the cotton field. The negro is becoming very independent of late and the signs of the tinits indicate that eventually the white farmers cannot get negro labor at all, uuless something be done to relieve the situation. Farmers are piepariug t<? plant another crop and the roads are thronged with wagons and carts hauling fertilizers. The plan adopted by the New Orleans convention for reducing acreage, was well conceived, but will it be carried out? That is foi the farmers to say. Their destiny is in their own hands, so to say. We hope for the best. Mr Thomas Alt man is very ill at this lime. His friends hope for him a speedy recovery. ? There was a festiva! given at L nicn school bull ling for the benefit of [he parsonage ;?t Rome. I have not been informed as to the amount of the proceeds. Well, .Mr Editor, if this communication escapes the waste basket I will approach your columns again. Wishing you and The Record's force much success I will say adieu for this time. REPORTER.
