On last Monday, we are informed, I* Miss Kizzie Frierson of Mouzon, re-; ^ ceived a fall causing the dislocation ( of her left arm. She was leaning on , the piazza railing when the banisters j gave way, thereby causing the acei- ' dent. Messrs A A Brown and J Divis !( Carter of Leo were in town Monday, j We owe our thanks to Friend Carter ] for a cordial invitatiou to attend the i anniversary celebration of Prospect j Lodge K of P on the evening of!; Thursday, November 10. One of our observing friends who j keeps tab on weather conditions informed us that the rain last Thurs- j day was the fiist during a period of 35 days^ which is the longest bontinuous "spell*'of dry weather that comes within his recollection. We have been requested to an- . nounce that a piotraoted meeting, conducted by Rev H P Fitch, State j j evangelist, will begin in the Bap-|, tist church Friday night, October j 28, services twice a day, morning j and evening. The public is cordially invited to attend. 1 I Among those from town who are ; visiting the State fair this -week are ; noted the following: Dr W V Brock-| luton, Mrs W V Brockinton, Miss,; Ada Brockinton, Messrs B C White-; head, J A Kelley, LeUov Lee, P H Stoll, L W Gillaud, J G McGutchen and others doubtless whose names we are unable to obtain. i I 1 We learn with regret that Mr j; James Hen-y Rice, Jr.,. has severed j his connection with the Conway! "Field." Mr Rice is a man of broad i culture and vast stores of learning.: He is withal a born newspaper man. and we fear that "Th" Field" will | find it a difficult matter to secure an-! other editor of such versatile talent and varied accomplishments. We learn that a short time ago a gentleman residing in. the lower part! of the county caught a thief in the: act of carrying off a trunk in which j he had placed $50 i.i cash. The I thief escaped, but fortunately he dropped the trunk as he ran. With three banks in the county it is passing strange that people will take; chances of fire and robbery by storing; money in their houses. Three civil causes of interest were tried before the court of common pleas, commencing- on on Thursday and continuing 1 through Saturday. The first in order was that of Thomas Wilson vs the Progressive Milling Co., in which the plaintiff was represented by Messrs Willcox & Willcox of Florence, and the defendant by Messrs W L Bass and S G W Shippof the Florence bar. The jury in this case returned a verdict for the plaintiff. Next came the case of R J Parrott, administrator, vs the A C L railroad. This was a suit for damages in the sum of! ?15,000 for the killing of L H Parrott by the train on the evening of January 4, 1904. Messrs LeRoy Lee and W A Holman, of Charleston, represented the plaintiff and Messrs Gilland & Gilland and W H Fitzsimmons, of Charleston, the defendant, i This case was stubbornly fought on both sides and the jury found a verdict for the defendant. On Saturday the case of Miss E D Moore vs the A C L railroad was beard. This was a damage > suit for $5,000 based on injuries received by Miss Moore from ; cutting her hand on a piece of broken glass in the door of a passenger coach last June while on her waj' from her home in ^ -* i - - ii J i.1 boutn ooston. va., toatrenu uie 1 wedding- of her brother, Mr W S Moore of Lake City.
