VlVL.P t, KinKsiree, S.C. * FRIDAY, AUG *25, 1904. There is a crying need for dwelling houses in Kingstree, the lack of which keeps away many families >: who would like to come here to live if they could rem comfortable homes. Whenever a dwelling becomes vacant there is a rush of applications for renting it and several wouldbe citizens are now vainly seeking houses to live in. It would prove an excel lent'investment for some of our capitalist* to put their money 111 neat, comfortable tenant dwellings and at pV 1 the same time there is nothing that would contribute more materially to the growth and prosperity of the V tow in \ We have asserted heretofore and we wish to re-iterate that The Record is "boosting" 110 caudidate for a.Stale or county office. As an individual anyone connected with this paper has the right to support whom he pleases, but the paper's influence (if it has any) is for 110 particular office-seeker. Parties wishing articles printed in behalf of friends who are candidates for State or county offices will please bear this in mind and ' send check or money order with the article, estimating the price at one cent a word. We absolutely decline to publish these communications free of charge. Several reports have gone out recently from this county alleging the discovery of. an insect resembling fhe Mexican boll weevil. Before publishing such damaging reports it would be well for correspondents to be absolutely sure that the suspicious insect is a boll weevil. Through the courtesy of the department of ento mology of Clemson college Ave have received a specimen of the boll weevil and its larva, along with a descriptive pamphlet, all of which we shall be pleased* to exhibit to any of our readers who are sufficiently interested to call at this office; or if auy one i * at a distance will send us what he _ ?l 1 3. We happen to know that in the near future the town will be re-rated by the Southeastern Tariff association and if some provision be made for fighting fire before the new rates are fixed., enough will be saved in the wav of iusurance premiums to pay for the equipment several times over. If the town is not able to bear this expense we believe that every business man would contribute something to supplement this fund. Ml the candidates are good men and I have no doubt would take a high stand in the general assembly. i It has been my privilege to attend t he-sessions of the legislature the i past few years and to observe the proceedings of that important body. In this j | connection I will make sjiecial men-1 | tion of Hon. P S Wall, wr.h whom 1 j j was very pleasantly thrown during j j his term of service as a menibtr (>f j I the. lower house. I know whereof I i speak when I say that no member of that body performed his duty with | more zeal and fidelity than Mr Well, i He was always promptly 111 his seat; and gave his support to all measures.j . he thought calculated to promote tho j j interest of his county and state, j ' while he bought to defeat such legisIjlation as in his judgment would J j I operate against the welfare of the' .(people.
