About Advertising. Some of our readers are disposed to criticise us for the amount of space given to advertisers. They fail to realize that bnt for the advertisers who buy our space we could not afford to sell this newspaper for less than two or three dollars a year. They do not appreciate the fact that the total amount we are able to collect from subscribers in a year? however strenuous our efforts?falls ? short of the actual expense of pub lisnirg tne paper. 1 nev are not aware that the advertiser is not only the best friend of the publisher, but of the readers of the newspaper as \ well. For this reason we, from time to time, request our readers to buy their ' r; goods from business houses whose advertisements appear in our columns, and at the same we ask that they put in a word for The Record when they patronize these advertisers. Tell them that yon saw their adver.... tisementsm this newspaper and were induced thereby to give thein your patronage. It costs you nothing to do this, and not only will it be a direct benefit to us, but you will indirectly benefit yourselves thereby. Here is the principle in a nut shell: A part of the money you trade with the advertiser he pays back to us for our space; and since every dolJor we make above expenses is invested in improving our equipment, we return what w e get to you in a a better paper for the same money. We aim to keep constantly improving the paper as our means will warrant; and unless forced to do so br the ever increasing exnense of ! labor and printing material, the price of subscription will continue the same., The subscribers to a newspaper have it in tneir pow er to make or break the publisher. They can subscribe for the paper and pay for it and still break him. Just pay no attention to the advertisements and and the trick is doue. On the other hand, if you wish to encourage the newspaper man and inspire him with hope and ambition to greater achievement, read the advertisements and let the advertisers hmw f Vmf ffiAV nro Vmilrlinrr lin +Vi?ir losiness by purchasing space in the ewspaper that you read. Now just a word in behalf of our advertisers. They handle the best goods obtainable in every .line and we guarantee the reliability of every business concern whose advertisement appears in our columns. We accept no- advertising propositions from dishonest or unreliable people. Every day some of you are going to buy something that is advertised in these columns?will you patronise the dealer who helps you to pay lor the^newspaper that yju read? <. -vr?r - tjj* MJtrxrx] w g:um. nrcrjnuL'^y.i v .
