C., has a communication in its issue for last week showing how unreasonable men are in what they expect of women. It is written from Leo and signed "Pepper." She says: "I have seen so much m papers about the ladies. In nearly every paper jrou pick up you will find something "about "woman" and w hat ' is said hardlv ever does them any credit at all.1' ?? " * "The men seem to take a delight in carping about women. You go to church and even the preacher gives them "Hail Columbia" about cooking on Sunday or even grinding oaffoe on the Sabbath." These statements cannot be sueI-* t cessfnlly denied for everybody knows they are true. Columns in .hp npw?naners are devoted to all * maimer of fault-finding with the women. frivolity and extravagance are fertile subjects and all the devilment that happens > is charged to them. An extra price is paid for sm^rt sayings at the expense of women and in fact many men treat women as if they were enemies of the human race. "Pepper" is right in what 6he says about the preachers but her remarks only apply to preachers who # cannot preach; such as have answered when somebody else was called. To hold their jobs they hare to vociferate about something add most of them harangue about wom$u. 1 "Pepper" speaks of cooking a vegetable dinner on Saturday and saving it over for Sunday and thinks jt would spoil. So do we, and we also believe it would spoil the temner of all the men of the household * ; "Pepper'*-concludes by saying: "The men do not think anything of ihaving. themselves or greasing their buggies on Sunday and I should like some one to tell us which is the greater sin, to cook on 8nnday or to grease buggies?" . We do not blame "Pepper" for this protest but endorse what she nvs and think it is time to hold up s and find. some.other object to complain about?Abbeville Medium. Women as Managers. It is a common opinion that woman has a limited sphere and that she must not depart from certain rhit.rarv hnnndaries marked out bv men. Enlightened people are wiser than to believe any such thing. A woman can do anything in the line of bnsiness that a man can do and nature nas not limited her capacities. Mrs Mary J Webster has beeu elected president of the Webster Man ufacturing Company, which manufactures furniture, located in South Superior, Wisconsin. The choice is a wise one, for she knows the business and there is no reason why a woman cannot manage a furniture factory as well as a man.?Abbeville Medium. We rise to remark that if a woman can manage a furniture factory as well as some women manage some 1 men we know, the enterprise would 1 doubtless pay handsome dividends. 1 y: ' : ni iTTirmirrrTi' ti i rimrrMgt lift in ue m. i . i TOPICS OF THE TOWN l;OR THE WEEK, A "Naughty"-cat Ynrn--Peop!p Coming and Going?Industrial Progrps?, Etc.
