While hjs.deaih has for some time seemed1 inevitable, j'et it caused many hearts to ache, and the universal expression we have heard is that in his death the county has lost one of irs best citizens. Mr. Britton was a true man in every sense of the word,. Having lived beyond the allotted three score and ten years, his wholi life's record is Uint of* a? kindly Christian gentleman. He was a consistent member of VnioaMelb odist church, hmeing served- for, a x number of years as superintend-. ?nt of the Sujjilay-school and at the time of his death he was a Reward of the church, As a soldier in the- CootedfjivaJe army he served his onaahy wi|h the same teal and fidelity to, duty thai he showedjin, his daily walks of liie. Hen. J. Davis Carter, of Willamsburg, has introduoed in the bouse of represintatives a bill to amend the dispensary laws so as to repeal the provisions relating to 1 Williamsburg, Marion and Oconee counties. In the report of the t legislative proceedings only the j caption of the bill is given, hence we do not kuow the nature of its i provisions. * 1 A young, white man, claiming 1 to be from the Harper# sec- j tion, was arrested Tuesday and ( tried in the mayor's court on the s complaint of a boarding house pro- 5 prietress, who charged him with cursing and disorderly conduct. It ( was proven that ;he followed the ^ lady into ker kitchen and so frightened her that she had to leave the house. The defenJant pled not guilty, but the testimony of several witnesses was againt him; so that, after delivering him a , sound lecture, Mayor Kelley sen- i tenced him to pay a fine of $59 j with the alternative of 30 days on the chaingang. Yesterday he was sent to the chaingang. ; Williamsburg was well represented at the carnival in Charles ton this week.
