Since the project was started sufficient time has elapsed to have raised tho money,.and yet we understand that but a Jew dol-J lars nave been collected: In this age of materialism we are apt to forget our obligation to the past. The debt that we owe to the men who sacrificed their lives on their country's altar cannot be measured by dollars j and.cenis. In honoring them we i honor ourselves, and we owe it to ourselves to show in a tangi-j hie way the esteem in which their I memory is held. The estimated cost of the monument is #*2,000. The quality ol courage displayed by the men ol Williamsburg demands that nothing clu ap be o lie red to their memory. Among tho bravest ot the brave, the flower of the Confederate army, they marched to battle, many of them to die and be buried in lonely and neglected graves. SHOU1X) SUCCEED 11IMSZLF. j Senator Ilav, who thought ol j opposing Judge Ernest Gary for; judge ot the fifth circuit, has. it isj reported, decided not to enter the) race.
