National Bank MORE TREES FOR SOUTH CAROLINA The Newberry Chamber of< Commerce in cooperation with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the South Caro lina State Commission of Forestry and the American Forest Products Industries is sponsoring a “More Trees for South Carolina” Program which it hopes will encourage the farmers of Newberry County to plant more pine seedlings on eroding and waste lands of the county. The local Chamber of Com merce has asked the cooperation of several local, State and Government Agencies in gett ing the necessary information to the land owners and to as sist them in planting the seed lings. Fairfield Forest Products Company of Newberry has offered the use of a Lother tree planting machine free of charge to the Newberry Cham ber of Commerce for use in this program. Hand planting tools will also be made available by various agencies for use by landowners wishing to plant areas which cannot be satis factorily planted with the mach ine. Mir. Paul Ezell, County Agent, plans to hold a series of meet ings in the various school dis tricts at an early date at which time the use of the planting machine, hand tools, and other phases of this program will be explained. Three thousand forest tree seedlings will be available free of charge to South Carolina landowners desiring them, ac cording to a statement by the S. C. Commission of Forestry. Ml - . E. B. Price, assistant State Forester, explains that any landowner in die State is entitled to 3,000 seedlings free of charge if they are picked up at the Forestry Commission Nursery at Wedgefield, South Carolina. If they are shipped to the landowners, there will be a charge of 50c per thousand seedlings. If a landowner de sires more than 3,000 seedlings, there is a charge of $2.50 per thousand seedlings if they are picked up at the Nursery, or $3.00 per thousand if they are shipped.
