WVAsmIOTON, April 10.--Danitl Wolsoy Voorlies, ex-Uilted States senator from the Stato of Indiana, died at 5 o'clock this mornig at. his home in this city, No. 1005 Mary land avonne, Northeast. The ex-senator had hoon in poor health for soveral years and for at least two years past had iken little part in the proceedings inl the senato. He had been a constant sufferer from rhoumatism of the boart and his friends thei,fore had como to expect that they might hear of his deAth suddonly. The list reports of him, however, were that he was showing some signs of improvement and his death, therefore, while not entirely unexpected, caie with the sudden noss of a shock. At the time of his retiremnent from the senato, the Tall Sycamore of tie Wabash was affectionately held by devtion of his followers of the I Ioos ior State. He was the leading Democrat on the finance cominittee and by virtino of this position the inatural leader of his party nati the floor of the Senito on all tarilT and financial qut-stions. He was not veI. active, however, owing to his ill heilth, in the work oin the Wilson tarifT bill, most of the numerous amendments to this bill and its final passa e afteri a storimy career in which it was in serious doml_ ger, being due liargely to Senator Jones of Arkamnsas.
