We bad the largest e!;jwd that has been in town in several years. In fact it has been so long since we have had a circus in Newberry that every one was hungry for one. They spread their tents just beyond the Crotwell place. It was a very fine p;ace for the show tbough it was a little far out of towa. There must have been 7,000 or 8,000 persons in town to see the procession, though not balf of them went in to see the circus. Some people object to a circus on one ground and another, but we believe the circus is a good thing and we are-glad this ones came along just at this time. It will give the people something else to talk abott besides five cent cotton and hard. times. We hope it will cheer them up, if but for a time. This was a large circus with.a large and creditable street parade. The order on the grounds and lnder the ter.t was the best we have ever seen. The acting was good. The trapeze act was exceedingly fine. The riding and rae. ing good. In fact the entire show was good and if Mr. Main will visit us again he will have a better crowd than this year. From tne above there is no doubt that a deal has been made to give the Republicans the county to get the paltry sum of four votes for Tillman for the United States Senate. They are very confident of being elected and their h-aders are willing to bet that they will get elected. Letters have been seen here from some of the "gods" in Colum bia begging men on the Tillman side to run for various offices and assuring them of their election. It does very well for Governor Tillman to sing whitesupremacy in the 11p-country, but when he gets .u the coast he tries to ;tuffsome of the rankest Republicans :own our throats. R. E. x. In Beaufort, as 11 as in Georgetown, there have been years fusion or mixed tickets, the publicans taking certain offices and ninating certain men to fill thesefl ces, and the Democrats filling thefl of the ticket. My policy has been ply not to interfere in these local ibirnations. I have recognized that wh ite men, living in those commu es are peculiarly situated, and must he best they can to prevent st.ife seen the races and stop corruption local affairs. Col.
