"AUNT KATE" OX PEACE, * *ear Advertiser Readers: A new date in history has been fixed for future school children. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, of 1918-what happened? The arinistice was signed which stopped Ohe 'world war and which practically spelled Peace! Yet us all rise and slng "Praise God from whom all blessings flow". I don't think I ever felt any more like it, surely. In the quiet farm homes there was no great parade made when the good news came, but a great gratitude welled ip In the heart, a chokiness In the throat, a mistness in the eyes, while upward ,went the fervent prayer, "Thank God"! "The world will never see such hero ism as was displayed by the boys in gray from 61 to 65," 1 used to hear amemorial orators say. They will have to modify that now. The sons have proved worthy of their sires. My heart and your heart glows with p'a triotic pride as we read day after day of the valiant deeds of the 80th Di vision in France. \Our own Co. D (inown to us as 'Traynham Guards) wa in that unit and we are looking forward to that good day when the remaining ones shall march up the street back to the old armory-heroes every one. To the ones who found a resting plaae in sunny France, in song and story "We will bid their deeds live on for ever, And their souls to find a peace with - God". It was a pathetic picture painted when on July 4th, 1917, Pershing's army first marched Whrough .Paris. Women wept as they cried "They como -the brave Americans". To one an other they said, "How long can this little army hold against that horde"? Days passed by and silently the boys in khaki from over the seas caine, a steady, never-ending stream. The time came and the hour when they ihould prove what was In them. Pos- I ifbly it twas the saddest hour of the i whole war to the French. Their noralo was slowly ebbing away. When :hat great offensibo started the last of Tune and the first days of July, the Americans were placed on the road that led to Paris-Chateau-Thiory. 'What place is this, Pard. we're go ing to takQ and where does this road lead, which we are going to holdt" asked a long, lank soldier in khaki, when the orders came. Call it the psychological moment, call it what ever you please when the khaki lads from America proved their valor when Chateau-Thiery was taken, iwhen the Germans were stopped on the road to Paris-tho joy of the French knew no bounds and from that moment no one doubted (if they did before) what manner of soldiers the laughing Americans were going to be! The allied cause is victorious and thank God for the )art played by American valor. Pershing knew what the words meant when he stood by he tomb of that illustrious French nan as he bared his head and sol imnly said, "Lafayette, we have come." The heroes have not all been fac ng guns, however.. Back home are >nes who did everything in their mwor to back the soldiers. Laurens mounty is full of such men. It takes :he highest kind of courage to be the leaders in different -patriotic activi ties, such as the Red Cross, Liberty Loans, W. S. S. and noWr the Urnted War Workers. Our district ha. had two such men, J. H. Powers and Sam Dorroh. They have worked like Tro jans in any and all drives. An auto mobilo horn sounded at the farm house and I went to the door the other day. The voice of neighbor Powers greeted me, "Will you let the two United War workers come In?" "Sure, and gladly," said T. I hope by the time this Is in print that all the need ed sum has been raised. But, dear reader, if you have failed in this, get busy and hunt up the chairman in your district and do your part. If Wilson did not think it necessary he'd tot sanction it. - Do your part and be iappy with the rest of us. We are all ,lad and deep in our hearts we sing he words "'TLho boys are coming nome." "AUNT KATE". Sleep and Rest. One of the most common causes of insomnia and restlessness is indiges ion. Take one of Chamberlain's Tab ets immediately after supper and see f you do not rest better and sleep better. They. only cost a quarter. See our line of Parlor Suits. 'They are big values.' S.
