Oxner, of Kinards, secure4 a .verdici of $2,600 against the Sea board Air Line Railroad last week in civil coirt on an indictment charging that - the railroad had enticed labor away from his farm during the spring of last year when labor was at a high premium. The verdict was for active and punitive damages and the amount is one of the largest awarded in the Laurens court in recent years. The case will probably go to higher courts. The jury found for the defendant in the case of Gary Cunningham against the Sovereign Oamp 1W. 0. ,W., which was in course of' trial when this pa per went to press last week. This was a suilt to obtain title to lands boutght by Mr. Pitts on a sheriff's ex ecution of 1909, the lands being those of John Y. Garlington, which he deed ed to Mrs. Young and others in 1910. The actual sale, which was ordered first in 1909, did not take place until 1916. In 1he case of Owings & Owings vs W. C. \iltchell, this being a suilt on account, defendant claiming that the account had been paid, .a verdict was rendered for tihe defendant. In the case of .1. 11. Willingliam vs ". J. Htiddock, involving a tract of land near the Newberry line, the case was withdrawn from the jury and dle cision will be rendered by the court at. a later date. 1iIn the case or .1. Wi. I1ol 1 vs A. At the meetdng of the Chamber of Commerce Monday' night, 'Col. N. F. Col.
