What luck today will be our lot? ow we moved in mci sispense, Cook we must, in self-defense: The beef was butchered, the hogs wcr: dead But wher.e were the people to be fed We gazed. with longing up the road strode; A passing cloud, a streaic of light Just filled our souls witi pure (1V light. 13ut we must work if we would win. And now some few were coming in; We kept in mind our great expenses, And tried to measure up the conse quences. At last we ruig the (inner1i1 bell, And then a inil of people fell! Where they came from nione could tel 0, the magic power of a dinner bell Though in numberrs rather light They sure made upr in appetite, A-]l seemed to feel firs-t nale, And they ate andal ate nd ate. It seemed an army had been fed And still the peoile cilled for breal Just before we snecimnhed to grief, A train from Greeinwood brought r; lief. Ve hinov it was 1 rainy day But we are sorry for those who sta: ed away, And when next we issue invitations Let nothing cause you liesitatitonls. We had an ideal spot in which 4ooC and serve that barbecue and v had as cihief cook, Mr. W. 11. Fuller, Cross 11111, who is well kniown as expert in that. line.
