It has j always been an antimonopoly parly and has repeatedly thwarted the rapacionsness of home monopolies by lowering the duties on foreign products. The Demo ( cratic party has simply used the tariff as a weapon to protect consumers from the high prices and greed of the home manufacturers. On the other hand the Republic can party has, used the tariff as a club to help the home manufacturers to maintain exorbitant prices. That's about all there is to the tariff question. The party is proud of its record on this question, but will not put (he financial issue aside to go into the tariff. Money is the issue.
