The Festival at Ridgeway o: Thursday night, for the benefit of th Hampton Rifle Guard, was a pro nounced success in every respecl and, from all accounts that hav reached us, was a most enjoyabl affair. The shod attached to th freight depot had boon enclose, with bagging, and through th magic manipulation of woman tender hands was converted into beautiful bower-like pavilion, fes cooned with evergreens, and bril liantly illuminated, thus presentin; a picture that was delightfull pleasing to the eye. As one en tered this charming enclouire i was hard to persuade one's self tha this wa$ not fairy land, so dazzlint and enchanting was the tout ensem ble. The occasion was doubtles (we hesitate so to speak) rendore especially pleasant by the pOsellc of our Cornet Band, to say nothin, of a strong detachment of th hlandsomest members of the Gordo Light In fantry, all of whom sus t.ined their long established rept1 tutation for a highly cultivate taste for both n7sic and th savory viauda for which Ridgewayi eminently distinguished1. Thi ladies of the co:nmutnity fairly out did themselves in the superb ar range1gen ts thiat were eyorwher visible. The young ladies particu larly *'ere so- bewvitchi.ng, and a solicitous about one's appetite, thz it was diffi3ult to do justice to th "bill of fare," an~d it required jnor ,effort than our reporter was capafbl of exercising to eat three supper: .although we have .bcoi informne pr'ivately, and we beg our friend not to speak~ of it, that by dint< perseverance lie m.anaged to worr down tayo. We are glad to learn that Lih narriageablo members of cLi Winnsbor~o delegation swep)t every thing before them (we do not refe ,to the catables) and thiat the came out e'first best" in the nmm .ous afai.rcs du~ cour into whic they were enticed. At least th: is their testimony, but being will ing accomplices their evidence mum be corroborated before we cai b)elieve it. We trust that the festiyal realize a handsomae sum for the Hamptol IRifle Guard ; ar.d we can truly sa that if it did nobbing else,, it mot cortuinly afforded a greamt deal < pleasure to the visitors frO.m WVinns bor.e.
