Sugenheimer & Co. Knights of Honor--E. S. Chand her, Reporter. Mr. Jas. W. Law is recovering from his recent severo attack of pneumonia. Goats are no longer suffered to perambulate the streets unmolested. But sheep are. Two y oung men of Winnsboro, belonging to different denoininations, havo agreed to "pair off" from church during the coming summer. We thank the Calhoun Literary Society of Wofford College, Sparm tanburg, for a complimentary invita tion to attend the annual celebra tion on the evening of June 25th. a Everybody fools goods over having in the Legislature two representatives "to the manner born" and in all respects admirably fitted for the positions to which they have been called. The thanks of the office are ten. dered to Mrs. Timothy Hardin for some unusually fine Irish potatoys, of this spring's growth. Such at. tentions are always highly appreciat ed by "ye editor s." Reports from the crops in the Wateree country are unfavorable. The stand in cotton is very poor, and the farmers have but little seed on hand for replanting. The crops are late over the whole county. The town council of Ridgeway required the payment for licenses in advance. The saloon keepers did not see any money in paying cash for lheenses and selling liquor on tiek. and they have closed for the dull season. In spite of the hard times we see signs of imiprovemnent. Mr. S. K. McDonald is erecting a very neat cottage which will soon b)0 coms pleted, and Mr. R. W. Phillips will shortly begin to build a store on the site formerly occupied by Major Hlilliard's store. All the pr1incipal patents on1 sew ing machines expired on the 1st of May, and a great reduction in p)ricos has resulted, The Singeor company sell their machines at about fifty pe~r cent, discount, and other comn panies in p)roportion. This is good news for persons who need ma chines, Dr. C. H. Ladd has on his place twenty acres manured wvith bone p)hosphatte, manufaetured by himself from the skeletons of the numberless horses and mules that wore killed by Sherman before crossing thme river in his memorable raid. The phosphate is not adulterated as are Smany of the fertilizers sold those dlays. Owing to indisposition, the Rev. C. E. Chichestor was unable to con. S duct divine seryices at the Presby torian church on Sunday, and his lecture in behalf of the Young Men's Christian Association was also post - poned. The Rev. Mr. Boyd preached at the Methodist church. He succeeds Mr. Walker, wvho has gone to Oharlestoni. Groat credit is due both to thme Histrionic Club and the Women's Christian Association for their re-. cent entertainments. Despite tihe low rates charged for admission and to turn over fifty dollars and forty (its to the 111ile Club, and the lt ter realized sixty dollars, which will be applied to the use of the Young Men's Christian Association. Furthor entertainments promise equal success. TIHE ELECTIN.--Tilo election pass ed of in the utmost quiet, and but for the fact that the polls were open, no one would havo known that such a thing was going on. Up to tho hour of going to pr ess the vote is about 1300 for Gaillard and Brice, and a few scattering. The ltadicals mado no opposition, and but fdw negroes voted--these, almost with out exception, casting their votes for tho Denmocratic nominoes. The voto at Winnsboro stood, for Gail.. Hard, 413 ; for Brice, 411. Truo Brotherhood Lodge, No. 344, Knights of Honor. A N extra mrelng of tis Lcaige will be held in Matsonic llall1 his (Tuie.-,day') afternoon ,at 4%'. o'clock, sharp.
