W. liar rie as Junior orator. The coroner of Williamsburg county held an inquest last week on the body of a colored girl named Dolly Jackson. She left her house about sundown on the tenth of December last to gather some wood anid was never seen after that although her parents hunted for her everywhere. Last Saturday morn ing some colored mea, hunting in the woods about three miles from Jackson's house, discovered some human bones and clothes, and sus pecting that they might be the re moins of the missing girl, notified the father of the fact, who, upon going with them to the spot, recognized the clothes of his child. The coro ner's jury rendered a verdict that the deceased was frozen to death. The citizens of Newberry are making strenuous efforts to secure the retntn of Newberry College to their town. At a public meeting, held Monday before last, the follow ing resolution was adopted : ".Re soled. That a committee of ten be appointed by the chairman to solicit subscriptions, and to take such other action as may be deemed proper, to secure the location of Newberry College in the town of Newberry, and that said committee report to an adjourned meeting of the citizens of the town in the Court house next Monday evening."
