Prince londay granted a change of venue rom Greenvile to Pickens county for he trial of Jgk. Gosnell, revenue gent, indicted for the alleged mur er of Sheriff Hendrix Rector, July 4, 919. In presenting the motion, ounsel for the defense intioduced n affidavit made by Gosnell fn which 3 said he could not secure a fair nd impartial trial in Greenville, ow rg to the fact that the sheriff, whose uty it was to summon jurors, is a rther of the deceased. The case of the state against Sul ivan, in which the defendant, Sulli an, was indicted for the alleged mur er of the half brother of Sheriff ilreath, of Greenville county, al nost thirty years ago, was cited, as vas the decision of the supreme ourt, upholding the lower court in ranting a change of venue. Solicitor Smoak, while not object ng to a change of venue, declared hat he had every confidence in the furors of Greenville county and in he sheriff. The defense replied that o reflection on the sheriff was in ended by the motion. The solicitor aid the state was perfectly willing hat the trial be transferred to Pick ns county. At the first trial last year of Jake losnell for the alleged murder, a iiistrial was ordered when the court f general sessions jury reported that t could not agree on a verdict. I PICKENS TEXTILE LEAGUE. Baseball League Formed of Pickens County Mill Clubs. At a meeting of baseball enthusi asts last Tuesday night a basebal league composed entirely of Picken county clubs was formed and giver the name of Pickens County Textil League. Teams which have entre( the league are Easley Mill No. 1 Easley No. 3 at Liberty, Alice Mil and Glenwood Mill. Gary Hiott wa: elected president of the league and Roy R. Smith, secretary and treas urer. The purpose of the league- (i to >romote clean baseball and furnish wholesome sport and aanusement during the summer months. A regu lar schedule will be adopted next veek and the season will. begin about April 23, games being played every Saturday. Chapman, Ruil Policemen Pickens Co. MR. JAMES F. HENDRICKS DEAD. Mr. James F. Hendricks, an aged and well known citizen, died at his '.home near Liberty last Thursday. Mr. Hendricks was 83 years old and was a Confederate veteran. le was probably the oldest Mason in this . county, having been a member more than 60 years. He is survived by the fallowing children: H. D. Hendricks, of Anderson; N. R. Hendricks, of Texas; Mrs. Emmie Donaghey, of Texas; L. L. Hendricks, T. 'J. Hen dricks, and E. F. Hendricks, of Pick ens. Mr. Iendrick's wife died only two or three months ago.. Hie was buried with Masonic honors in the Liberty cemetery. - Mr. H. B.- Hen- i dricks, of Pickens, is a brolhe' of the deceased.
