Carmel section, was among the business visitors at the county seat Monday. Misses Martha Cureton and Nellie Freeman are spending several weeks in the northern markets selecting mil linery. M. F. Hester, accompanied by Miss Pearl Hester, left Wednesday foi' a visit to relatives at Calhoun and At lanta, Ga. Bower Jones of 'Calhoun, Ga., has been visiting friends and relatives in Pickens county. He is a grandson of the late Van Jones. Mrs. George Hall has returned to her home in Pickens after a week'sstay with Mrs. Ola McKagen in Greenville. Wim. Masters, an old Confederate sol dier, is very ill of pneumonia at his home near Table Rock. Many friends hope he will soon be up again. R. 0. Spearman of Central, was the first person in Pickens county to send in report of how much flour he had on hand in excess of thirty days' supply. He is to be congratulated upon his promptness. ( T. Grandy died at his home in Wiliston on February 11, after a short illness of pneumonia. He married Miss Alma Glazener of Easley and was well known in Pickens county. His widow and one small son survive him. We appreciate very imuch the thought - fulness of our Montvale friends. Mr. Will Price has our thanks for some fine Irish potatoes, Mr. Wade Chastain for some very fine kraut and Mrs. Lem Grav ley for pickled peppers and canned peaches. Arrangements have been made to hold a horseswappers' convention at Pickens the first three days of court week, which will be February 25, 26 and 27. There will also be milk cows and pigs here for sale or trade during the convention. Big time! There will be a meeting of the Home Demonstration Club at the residence of Mrs. J. L. Valley, in Pickens, Wednes day afternoon, Febr'y 27. at 3 o'clock. All members are urged to be present as this will be a very important meeting. Hisses Mauldin and Earle will speak on gardening. Mrs. Sallie Marie Hardin Grice, wife of W. W. Grice, died last Friday, after being in declining health for several months. She lived in Cleveland town ship of Greenville county, near the Pickens county line, and had many friends in this county who will be grieved to learn of her death. T. A. Julian, wel!-known citizen of the Gross Roads section, was at the county seat on business Saturday. Mr. Julian recently had the misfortune of getting his residonce and all household goods destroyed by fire. He was in Greenwood at the time and knew noth ing of the fire until he got back to Easley. Ile carried no insurance and says his loss is $4,000 aor $5,000. H-e has begun the erection 01 a new building. Auditor Townes of Pick-ens county has receiv~ed the following tel egranm from the South Carolina T1ax Commission and it wiil be of interest to all tax payers: "Auditors are instructed to take returns at 100 per cent value of property audi equalize assessment thereon at 42 per cent. General and uniform reduction of assessment wvill be ordered by the tax commission if above will result in raising more taxes than the legislature approp~riated."
