Southern Public Utilities company Inaugurating In the city of Anderson a new 3chedule of rates for electric light which will neither raise nor low er bill of the average snr.H consum er, but will lower very matf.rvilly the cost of light for the middle class of consumers, who are represented by the business houses, and raise very slightly charges for the largest con sumers, of whom thorp are not moro than two or three in the city, is to be .decided In tho next few days. Coun cil took the matter under advisement fellowing the appearance of Manager H. A. Orr of the Anderson .branch bf the Southern Public Utilities company before council at a special meeting convened yesterday afternoon at 3:3p o'clock tn council chamber. In appearing before council Mr. Orr stated, that under .the. franchise held by the Southern Public Utilities company Anderson was.entitled to the same ratea for light as' any other city in the Carolinas lu which hi's company operatea. Beginning April I, he stated, a new schedule of ratea wat going to be put into effect in thc city r.t Charlotte. This new achedul? lt waa stated, waa practically devised by the city council ot that city. Mr. Orr submitted comparative schedules anf diagrams showing the present rates and the proposed new rates. He showed that consumers whose billa are now between SI.00 and'12.600 wilt not be affected by thc new schedule, that la. the . ist of light tor them will remain practically Waat it a now.
