Chamblee of this county aomO years ago, a negro by the name of Sam Rice waa brought buck here yesterday morning from Clarksville, Ga., by Deputy James Williams. The negro bad spent some two years In prison in Georgia, lt ls stated. It is said tbat he waa arrested there for carrying a pistol and ley In prison for a year awaiting trial. Upon his conviction bo was sentenced to serve one year on the chain gang. Deputy Williams left Anderson Friday morning to bring the negro bacK here. -o- _ Bound Over on Grave L'harge. That Verge Hunter, the negro was placed In jail recently on cnargea or having stolen 2 1-2 bushels ot peas from R. W. Parker, a farmer living 7 miles southeast of the city, had broken into a barn to commit the al leged theft, ?re the charges made against the negro when the case waa brought before Magistrate Broadwell yesterday. A special meeting of the board of education was held yesterday In the office of County Superintendent of Education J. B. Felton. Here Cotton was quoted on the local mer. ket yesterday at 8 1-4 cents, though comparatively little of tho staple waa offered for sale. Late in the afternoon the market dropped to 8 cents.
