T? RB Information of Care This is the most complote list of the governors of South Carolina ever pub lished, and is the first lint ever pub lished, so far aa I know, of thc lieu tenant governors. It ia furthermore distinctive in that I do not ask any one to toke lt on full h. the citation of the authority for every ?talement ia explicity given. For this reason I hope it may be of value to historical 'students. The list taken from Mc Crady's history is substantially cor rect though there are some minor in accuracies, as lie himself indicates at another place. Lack of time prevented my going to tho sourceB for these 2", governors, but, for the convenience of readers. I insert them. In saying a governor before the civil War was elected (on December 10, e. g.,) I name the day on which he was declared elected, though occasionally tbs voting may have been a day or so previous, President, Vice President, Governors, "Lieutenant Governors, Deputy Gov ernors and Acting Governors of South Carolina from i G 4 io 1899. This list of 25 propr-'etary governors ls taken from the appendix of Mc Crady's 8outh Carolina under the pro prietary government, 1(570-17ll?. It ls inserted here for the convenience of those who may wish to preserve in one place a complete Hst. Those after James Moore, Dec. 21, 1718, are com piled >by me from the records in thc i secretary of state's office and In thb| legislative library. The authorities be. ginning with 1842 are in the latter, with the exception, which ia noted at'the proper place. D. D. W. 1.
