J. B. Felton, superintendent of education for Anderson county, has issued the following open letter to teachers, trustees and patrons of the public schools: "We are planning to have Field Day In Anderson next spring. We can do nothing without your help. The success of the occasion depends co you. "These exercises are held for the purpose of stimulating an Interest in spelling, geography, arithmetic, In athletics and in home economics, such as sewing, bread making, the making of tables, shelves, baskets, etc. Prof. T?te says: 'The teacher-who works In tha umrvll t?r>1nte<< R->h?nl ?nmo.1 times lookB upon her task as insig nificant; but it assumes a new dlg I nity and importance when she has ' I a chance to see It in its relation to the larger county system. The school spirit of the boy from the Pine Qrove or Long Cane school takes on a different meaning after he has marched behind his school banner 1. the county Field Day parade and has seen the representative of his schoolj take; honors In tho spelling match or in th?"l00-yard dash. TKe' supeAnreintent calls attention In tbjs.yJcjtJcBu^o^th* fact that even country spoiling matches contribute to the progress oZ a school by reason of the fact that It-Btrorolates a friend ly rivalry and requests that every aKaaI in r\rnnnrK, t inn'F ifnr tha f fli.' t\ - day)'conduct contests1.at intervals In this .line and prepare, to make the 1 final selection of tho school's best speller by the last or March. One especially pleasing feature of [ tho day is the enormous picnic din ner which Is now being planned. A I long tablo will bo spread, at which j all g uosts can be cared for, and tho ? affair will bo lrf the nature o? s "community dinner." Tho athletic features of the day < are being stressed and Mr. Felton says that he 1b sure there will be a number ot> entries In the various , events.
