We understand the Troy ball was quite a. success. We regretted our inability to attend. Capt. S. J. Hester, a prominent citizen of the Savannah side was in town yesterday. Miss Nettie Koons, arter a stay of three months in Abbevill will leave for her homo in Baltimore next Thursday. Communion services were held in the Methodist church on last Sunday night. Don't forget the entertainment to be given by the ladies of the Presbyterian church on the 20th instant. The Master and Sheriff both advertise valuable lands for sale on the first Monday in January. Walter L. Miller, assignee, advertises some valuable land for sale next Kaleday. The Methodist Conference will convent} in Orangeburg on next Wednesday. Revs. Bethea and Weber went down on yesterday. Quite a number of our lawyers have ?;one to Columbia to attend the Supreme Jourt. The Eighth Circuit wai called on yesterday. You ought to visit the store of Messrs. H. W. Lawson & Co., at night to see how well their hundsomu Christmas goods show off "by gas light." A drove of hogs arrived in town on last Saturday. DeBruhl Esq., Mr. George C. Hodges, read the essay on "Moral Education" Mr. T. P. CotMnm is tho next essayist with Mr. J. G^Klugh as Alternate. The next meeting will be hold on the 31st of December. An excursion train will be run to Augusta on next Thursday. The Anderson Prohibition bill has passed the Sennte. It is a regular ironclad one, and it seems to want to put a stop oven to the drinking of whiskey i:i private houses. Congress met last Tuesday. The President's Message was a statesmanlike paper, and is spoken of in high terms by the press of the country. The Christtnns (roc of the ladies of the Presbyterian church, will conic oil' on the 20th instant at the Court House. Those of us who know how enjoyable these entertainments are will bo loth to miss it. So dont forget the date. Tn addition to giving the weather signals, Mr. J. C. Klugh now has instruments by which he can learn the mean average temperature here each day. A record will be kept of these, and we will know the average temperature of the place during the year. Kennedy has bought a plantation of 340 acres of land just out of town. The hunters have cleaned out the rabbits in this section during the season. Mrs. W. 1). Stone lias jusl returned from a pleasant trip to Chester, after witnessing the marriage of her brother. Ilcv. W. F. Pearson is putting nice improvements on Dr. Raskin's property in town. The young men have received about $200 to improve their Association Hall. They speak of putting a eoal stove in it, which will be an acquisition. The report of "Discipline in Erskine College,'' as given in the JYcww and Courier, was much exage rated. Mr. W. C. lladdon went up to Anderson C. H. last Saturday. Mrs. lladdon is spending some time with her mother. Mrs. Kennedy, of Anderson. The week of prayer presents an attractive programme. Mr. U. 11. Donald, who is running a tin-shop here, has brought his wife ami children here. We are glad to have them with us. Capt. O. Witter, who has had charge of the New Hotel at Abbeville C. 11.. has opened the Latimer House here, and is prepared to feed a..d bed all who will favor him with a call. Lowndesville and Anderson are now linked together by a railroad and telegraph line, and it is rumored that ere long the union between the two places will be further strengthened by the binding together of two hearts in one. Although the weather was very unfavorable, the festival at this place was well attended and well patronized. The receipts were about seventy dollars. The festival was held in the Walk ins' House, which war, a very suitable place for it; besides, the different rooms were beautifully and tastefully decorated, so that there was a sufficiency to not only "tickle the fancy," but also to supply the wants of the inner man. Clinkscales has returned from a visit to Pelzer. Musk rats and wild ducks have been making depredations on the fish-pond of Mr. T. L. Haddon. Messrs. M. K. Hollingsworth and Samuel Douglass are cleaning out the Fa.ir bottoms.. w ~~ Mr. N. A. Baker has very much improved his place and now wants to sell it. Mr. T. L. Haddon has employed Mr Mathew Langston to clean out Park's crook for a distance of about four and a half miles, It is said that a bocf that was recently killed in the Fair's Bridge market was over 21 years old, and the gravy made from it was so tough that it wouldn't cut. Mr. Maxey Donald is located now and it is presumed that he will soon have a cook. Mr. Thomas Miller, a typo from the Medium office, who lias been danger* ously sick for some timo with typhoid fover, is now considered better. Level Land Locals. We have just been visited by quite n heavy snow, and the indications are n good whoat crop for 1887. Wheat sowing is progressing slowly owinir to the recent snow; not one oul of every five have finished ns yet. (/otton picking js over ami tho crops are short of what was expected. Master Loui* Pratt, son of Mr. Robert Pratt, is quite sick with rheumatism, and has been for several days. Mr. Noble Bell, we learn, has made more cotton than any man in Level Land to the amount of cotton planted, from the fact he knows how to cultivate the weed, lie is one among the best of our farmers, and possesses sterling qualities of head and heart. We learn there is to be another festival at Little River church Christmas for the purpose of raising funds for the church. We have always doubted tho propriety of getting up funds upon that principle. It seems incompatible w ith the teachings of Holy writ. We learn that Captain J. L. Robinson contemplates painting his new house ut an early day. He has erected quit?> n handsome building since he was elevated to the office of Trial Justice. Mrs. iS. G. Callaham. late of Level Land, has removed to Greenville and is now living with her son. We hope she is pleased with her new home. Mrs. Carrie Clinkscalcs has quite a flourishing school.
