It is neglected and goes r. to waste nnd ruin. The farm demands o the whole time and attention of its foli. lowers, and it is the same with politic?, e The ono or tho other must succumb and y as a rule it is the farm which suf }. Tera. s To this tho Tobacco Leaf, of Clarksi. vflle Tonn., responds with the assurance that the Spirit of the Farm need not i. confine its remarks on this subject to farmers. There is no vocation that does i- not demand full time from those who I- engage in it. The merchant who dabbles in politics finds after a time that his neighbor, more attentive to business than he gets the lion's share of the trade while the lawyer returns to his office e after a season at the State or National Capital to find the bulk of his parctice y in other hands. But, on the other hand, if the offices are,not pla ced in the keeping of good " men the country goes to the duinnition j bow-wows and the individual goes with it. Something is demanded of every . patriot, and thy patriotic farmer can 8 serve has country as faithfully as the \ lawyer, in whoso breast the love of coune try burns as a consuming fire. The ,1 misfortune just now scens to be there t are more patriots than offices. d lieechtr and DUke. On the day after the Dilke case was settled in England it had ^ a long editorial, commenting upon the 8 case,- and attempting to picture Sir Char* lea' conduct as like that of Mr. Beecher. The latter was determined a ''perjured christian minister,'" sud on this clause his admirers are anxious that he ahall sue the Sun. They charge that Charles A. Dana, the veteran editor of the has *>een persecuting Beecher for years, wholly because of a bitter quarrel with the Plymouth pastor. It.is hinted that t some of Mr. Beechcr's friends have cabled him suggesting that he at once commence suit for damages against the J Sun, and criminal proceedings for libel >. against Mr. Dana. The revival of the J old charges against Beecher at this time ? is undoubtedly bitter surprise to his | friends, f particularly as some of tho r English journals'have-copied the Sun's |j article with some inquisitive and objectionable comments p|j|M Cheat) Goods, but Crfiriit Played Out.
