THURSDAY, CCT. 24,__131S It is hard to tell the actual true value of a piece of land. o The extra territory the Kaiser wanted does not exist. u War has its terrors but it is expected to bring blessings in its train. o Fresh air is or.e of the things which will aid in preserving the health when "Spanish Flu" is going about. ? ?-o All of the news latclv indicated that American boys were on their way to Berlin. They meant to go over the top anil stay over. o with the germs of the disease. A-s the allies win and the Germans lose, the value of our credits wil go up and those of the central powers will decline. o Conway will continue to grow aftei the war. We feel confident that the future of Conway is great. Like every other town in the country she is being held back at this time by the war effort that her people are putting forth. Wa.ch Conway after the war. o One thing must be kept in view when making final settlement with Germany, and that is to make it impossible for Prussian War Lords ever again to plunge the world into a bloody war. Germany need not be destroyed in order to clip her wings so she can never fly so high again. o While the fighting1 men are in the trenches and putting the Hun on the run; every farm in this country must be producing as much ix< it can, Therefore the wisdom of the draft regulations which aims to take what is needed and must be had l'oi fighting material and. yet leave sufficient men at home to till the soi and furnish th food that must b< had if soldiers art; to hold out 1.( fight. o The rules laid down by the foot and fuel administrators have beet kept by a great majority of the peo pie of this country. In every com munity, however, are to be found th one or two who have seemingly de fied these rules. The rest of th people despise them for it, but thi does no good and they who violat the rules every day are still goin at it 'regardless of public senti ment. There is of course a wj*y t <r.?; V' - ? , > ' j ' xi i make such men and women take nc tice, and that way is to report ther to the authorities. In some instanc es this has been done and the per alties inflicted have been sever' There is not a worse kind of slackc than those who are willing to stan and look on at the rest of the peopl /lnntntrin^ fluvryv?*>l va.c. ftf i UCIIlAf W . ' order to help win the war, whi] they, disdaining the regulations, g on their extravagant ways, Fear is not $the least of the; troubles <tf thOi ipeopicLjust now as a result pf the spread of influenza. The truth ialhat the disease is not dangerous ordinarily. Unless it is accompanied or followed by pneumonia or other serious complications there is nothing worse to it than an ordinary bad cold; nevertheless the people hear all sorts of tales about the disease, many of which aije ' falsehoods and the result' is a"shale-> ing fear on the part of aonie people and which will make them vory much worse off in case the disease is contracted, if indeed fear might not in some cases result in death. It is well enough to be careful about the disease and walk in some dread of contracting it; but no one should carry the fear of it to such an ex- j tent that their chances of recovery , would be lessened.
