There are said to be 65 German Lutheran congregations in Greater New York, with a menaberehip of 32,072. The late Mrs. Martha McKnabb bequeathed $9,COO to the German town Orphan Asylum. Mr. Wm. Brann has-been appointed treas urer of the Home. A new congregation was organ ized in Tigerton, Wis , and an old Roman Catholic church building was bought and reconstructed for Lutheran services. New chnrches were also consecrated in Tannton, Minn., and in Cloyd Valley, S. Dak. The first anniversary of the death of Oswald Ottendorfer, former editor of the “New York Staats- zeitung,” and founder of the “Isa bella Home” for aged persons, was observed with religious services, addresses being delivered by Revs. Young and Hebler. Emperor William has furnished a memorial window to the German church in Shanghai, China, of Baron Von Ketteler, murdered by the Boxers. The Jerusalem Society in Ger many, which supports the benev olent institutions in Palestine, numbers 80,000 members. Its re ceipts, last year, amounted to abont $22 500. The new Melarchthon Memorial Museum, erected in Bretten, Baden, on the spot on which the honse stood in which he was born, is under roof. But the interior is not yet finished, and additional con tributions for that purpose are solicited. The dedication is to take place Jane 25th, 1902. The Southern Railway company an nounces that the name of its special Florida train, operated each winter between New York City and St. Au gustine, Fla., in connection with the Pennsylvania R. R., the Plant System and tbe Florida East Coast Railway, previously knowu as the New York and Florida Limited, will, in the future, be called "The Sonthern Palm Limited.” The initial trip of tbe Southern Palm Limited will be made early in January, 1902. Its equipment will consist of luxurious observation, club, dining and compartment sleeping cars, and it will be in every respect the most magnificent train operated in the south.
