The town was so named tor the civil I engineer who laid off the road. The| name Bethea would have been most ap ?ropriate, for the place abounds with Ictheas. Here we met Rev, Sam Be thea, whose grandftaher was the nucleus of Methodism in Marion county, and his ] father was a local Methodist preacher ; he was to Marion what the late Rev. W j K. Breeden was to Marlboro. We find Methodism alive with three methodist parsonages next to each other-with the | Baptist within a stone's throw ot these. Near this place was the home of the| late Governor Ellerbc, and ol congress man J. K. EUcrbe. Thc meeting opened Friday'evcning, Mrs WAIT, Cont. Vice Pres. presiding The sessions throughout were spiritual ano interesting. Thirtysiour delegates ! were present, with reports from their individual societies. Mrs J. C.
