BgpiiWwWdW*ul SUNDAY SOHOOL OOHFEHENOE Tho, LGtli annual conference- of the Methodist Suuduy schools of Marlboro (and tho 24th year since thc workers were organized at Boy Uin) was held at Beulah church, Olio circuit, last Friday and Satur day. This church is very near tho Marion line and just opposite tho old Chancellor Johnson Donoho plantation now owned by Mr. Cal houn of Olio. It is a wealthy com? inunity, and, though few in num ber they are a "Gideon Band" of christian workers. They have a live Sunday school under the superin tending care of Mr. II. M. Jackson assisted by Mr. J. P. Stanton an earucst, zealous worker, full o? spirit and music-two factors that contributed no little to thc interest and success of thc Conference. We reached the grounds a short while before the Conference open ed and were struck with the prep arations made. Grounds all nicely cleaned and swept, tables erected, and the inside of the church most tastefully trimmed with the choicest Howers and evergreens-yes, wel come was written everywhere, and thc faces of the good people were lit tip with smiles while their eyes sparkled with a cordial greeting that made us feel that "it was good to bc there." President C. T. Easterling pre sided and S. A. Brown served as Secretary. The conference was most heartily welcomed hy Bro. P. L>. Bethen and appropriately respoud * ed to by the president. Written and verbal reports from the schools were given more closer . attention at this conference, all of i which showed greater interest and activity in all thc schools that re ported-there was not a "frost ; bitten" school reported.-those who ' suspend during thc winter. ( )n Friday "The real object ol Sunday school work and how it can bo secured," and "The Wisdom of giving prizes," brought forth prac tical, interesting and profitable talks from Bros Hodges, MrVeigh, Eas terling, W. Tile "Question Box" received hearty attention and many pertinent questions wore asked and pointedly respondad to Saturday ns usual was the "big" day, tor aside oom the profitable discussion ? of "The importance ot preparation and punctuality of teachers," and 'TIow shall the collections in theS.S be ex pended," by i?ros .V E Montgomery, 'J T. Sickness prevented his attendance on Friday. _ "y~- ''.Jr ; . Hean ty Spot Academy i The lou i th scholastic year of this pop ular institution closed with a public re ception, Friday evening, the . 22nd inst. The weather was charming, and the response to the entertainment was so generous, that the building was crowd ed, many having to stand on the out side . To xsay that the occasion was crowned with sublime success, is put ting lt mildly. Everybody was delighted and words ot commendation ot the able teachers, heard on all sides. The young ladies in the musical department; under the directions ot Miss Vista Dudley, re flected credit on their gilted teacher. Col. McIntyre criticized their perform* ance ''with gloves off." Their training is admirable, as is indicated by the posi tion ot hands and-person showing clear ly attention to details. .\Il did splendid" ly hut, for want ot space, we cannot in dulge in individual excellence. To bc candid, there was little room for dis crimination. The studies in the art de partment, also under Miss Dudley's Masterly control, we have never seen surpassed, and seldom, equalled, even, by our best colleges. Misses Stewart Mc Lan rin, Huestess, Hastening and ?Janie Covington are to tie especially commended tor their ability, fidelity and untiring assiduity. They certainly pos sess talent ot a very high order, and it is earnestly hoped, thal opportunity will be given lor the full developianent ol their marvelous powers One ot the rul ing leatures of the evening, was a most amusing drama entitled "Hoy Blue:'! The impersonators were, without Haw, while the seit possession of the dramatis personae was remarkable I have never Seen it equaled by thc pupils ol any ' school, and not surpassed, even hy old "stagers". This play was presented by the whole school, and it was wonderful how. some so young, could display suer , imperturbable sell possession. The little "twin sisters" Misses -Maggie lind Marj Louise Huestcss added .new .laurels lc thetr histrionic reputation As they stood * belore the footlights, w'ith their angelic sweetness draped in immaculate, diap hanous white, it seemed ns it the win? dows of heaven had opened, and let down two ol its' brightest gems 1er thc delectation of the audience. Thc pleas ure ot the visitors lound expression in loud applause Miss Dudley punctuated the delights ot the occasion, with one'ot her sweet est songs, with piano accompanimcni by Miss Helen Easterling. By request CM McIntyre tendered thc thanks ol the ladies lor the good order observed, and made a talk o 1 thc eman cipation of Woman. Me said with other good things that every woman should teel her equality, by equal culture should reign the graceful queen of do mestic and social Hie, command?e alle giance by the polish ol her manners, Hu sweetness Qi", her temper ?and, the re sources of-her ihiind; dispensing willi endearing benignity, such favors as slu alone can give. In conclusion Misses McArthur and Dudley have been so 'tafthtul to theil obligations to Beauty Spot Academy that their memory will be associated with the school lor all time. "You may;hre ik and destroy the vase if y ou will. Bul thc scent of the rosss will hang round it still."
