The Ohristmas Party held at tho elegant residence of Slr. John R. Townsend on Wednesday evening, Deo. 26th, 1900, was imlood, an enjoyable and happy occasion. Every ono passed the moments pleasantly and merrily. Soft, sweet musio was rendered by some of our most talented mu sicians. About 1*75 guests were served with a sumptuous feast, consisting of coffee, nutt;, fruits,* cake and other dainties. Tho beautifully prepared titblo was in tho piazza, ou the south side of the house. The decorations, which wore numerous, were tastefully and ar tistically arranged, being of holly, ivy, bamboo and mistleto. It was befitting that they should weep at her death, but while they lingered there in sorrow and tears, her pure spirit had swopt out beyond tho narrow confines oi time and found its resting place iu tho habitations of thc just. Sho requested those nearest and dearest to her not to mourn, but lather rejoioo at her departure, as she would ..bo hotter off.I' To mo she was n most highly valued friend and I loved her most sinceroly. Her homo was often to mo an oasis in tho desert of life, and dtar to my honrt will ever remain the fond recollections of the many happy hours spent with ber and her children in her hospitable home, in the days that aro long geno by. Sho was always ready to counsel mo kindly, and her advice was o /er sensible and right. She was modest ana retiring in dis position, intelligent and well posted on tho current events of tho limo, and acquainted with tho best literature of the day. In a far distant state my hoatt is touched to its depths by sor row at her loss, and with sympathy for her loved QUOS, especially does my tenderest lympathy go forth to that noble daughter who has nursed her with untiring faithfulness and tender ness, through tliO log tedious months ot suffering. Died in this town on Saturday Dec. 29th 190?, after an illness ol 10 days of pneumonia at her resi dence on Jennings street, Mrs. Meta Brown Eastcrling in lier 22nd year. ,, . She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown of Ked Bluff. She was a lovely woman, a devout ohi'istinn and a member of the Bap tist church. She leaves a devoted husband a lfttlo babe 15 months old, father, mother, sisters, and two brothers to mourn her sad death. The remains vere taken to fhc family burying ground near Swctt Swamp on Sunday and funernlized by Rev. E. P. Eastcrling, and in tho presence of a large concourse ol sorrowing friends and relatives laid to rest to await the great reunion, when circles now being broken shall again be united. *** Diod in this town Saturday after noon last, D?oomber 29th 1900, at tho rcsidonce of his uncle, Mr. Sam Pate, after an illness of near six weeks of typhoid fever, Mr. ?..S. Pate, fon of Mr. ?nd Mrs. Simeon Pate formerly of tliis county but now ol Mars Bluff, Florence county, aged 21 years, ll months and 16 days. Ho was a noblo young man and had devoted friends whero bc was known in this and Marion and Floronco counties. Ho was a mem ber of Company ? Second South Carolina and went to Cuba, and was twice promoted for worth)1 conduct. He caine to Bcnucttsvillc in October and took a position at tho Marble Yard, whero ho worked four weeks, when he was seined with fever which got bettor nw) worso until tho close Saturday.
