Fresh Mackerel at WADDILD'S. fl?"' llama io to 13J cts at WADDII.D'?. Oounty Exponaos, The Pickens Sentinel has a practical article on county expenses and county economy. The Sentinel says : "It would be a great saving to thc county to bor row money at ten per cent, per an mini in order to delray the expense of all kinds ol public work, the price of which is not fixed by law. In these days ol tpiick sales and short profits, there is nothing like the ready cash to make goods and labor come low. If either must be turnished on time the county has to pay at least twenty-five per cent, more for getting the same work done that it would have to nay if the money could be paid spot cash. This fact has been recogniz ed by several counties in thc State, and they have secured the necessary legisla tion to allow money to be borrowed at the discretion ol thc county commission ers within certain limitations. Any one will be convinced of thc wisdom of this suggestion, if he will get from an exper ienced bridge builder thc cash and credit prices nnd compare them. Some plan by which money can be kept in thc treasury to meet expenses promptly would contri bute more to economy in county affairs than any system of horizontal reduction in the fees and salaries ol public officeis. Any one will admit that its economy lot ti man to borrow money at ten per cent, instead of paying time prices (or his sup. plies. The same rule will hold in pro? curing goods or labor lor thc county. It is an experiment well worth trying. ' ????nil ?mm? Salesdoy in b'cbiuary. The attendance on Monday was very large, and from the way thc crowd moved about nearly every one seemed to have some business in view. The Sheriff sold one tract of land under execution. The attendance ol' North Carolina wagons was larger than usual, and all supplied with fruit, leather, buller, etc. The stock market was also well supplied will? a fair demand even at Ibo high prices asked. The stock on the swapping market was better than usual, and several exchanges were made. It was near night before the crowd broke, and left ye local stand ing on the street wita a pocket lull of "good wishes," "some cash," lot ol new subscribers, two marriage notices, a communication, two new "ads" and a new pencil, and regretting salesdays were not oftener for him. The crowd was one of the most civil for years. . .Don't forgot tho Entortainmont Fri day night. Tickctu nt Haynsworth'a. Grand and Petit Jurors. Tho following jurors were drawn on Saturday.
