Apoplexy was supposed to be the cause of death. He had been out on the pond, hunting, and brought in a duck. On reaching borne, he fell in the yard, was carried into his house, and died three honrs later. Mr. Lewis was a quiet, lnoflfchsive man, and we regret ted sincerely to learn of his demise. Ours came pretty close to being "Mud" the other day as we slip ped up on one of our horrible sidewalks. Oh! for that skim coating of gravel when the weather next breaks. ? A little slang in a newspa Ser, if indulged in in moderation oes not lower the moral tone of the sheet in which it appears, but on the contrary, lends spice to it. We hope our friends will excuse its occasional use in our columns. ? Two or three wee its ego we called attention to the fact that our people did not understand the fire alarm now in use here, and requested information on the subject. An* with every request that we have made of council, the request has been ignored. We want to say to these people that the sometime remarks made by us are not dictated in a spirit of ill-feeling towards sny member of the Council, or collectively, but we do want some attention paid by them to matters mentioned by us which vitally affect the interests of the city. Take for instance, the con stant ringing of the alarm bell on Tuesday evening. No one knew what it ntoant. Everyone was on the qui vive. It devel oped later ttiat somebody wss merely testing the apparatus. In lieu of definite information on the subject, we .would most re spectfully suggest to the mem bers composing our city council that in future tests of what should be a perfect test of what should be a perfect system, the alarm bell should be muffled with a -blanheti -either dry or V I >=r .
