Thc question, "lie it resolved that women 4^ should have the right to vote," was ably discussed by S. L. Duncan, chief on the affirmative, and Geo; W. Brown, chief on the negative, fol lowed ""by other disputants. By a vote of the society thc question was decided in favor of thc ailirmative. -A boy about sixteen years old, who was stealing a ride on the cars, was severely injured on Thursday night at tho depot. He was riding upon thc bumper between tho freight cars and foll upon thc track. As the cars were running very slowly ho was rolled off the track without the wheels passing over his legs, lint one of them ff was fearfully lacerated. He is nov.' at the poor house and doing as well as could bc expected. -An old employee of thc S. C. R. lt., named Robert Winter, was killed by the cms at Jamison's last Monday night. A bottle of whiskey near ?here the body was found, indi cated that Winter had been drinking and probably had L'd down on the truck to sleep off his drunken stupor. The body *^as fearfully mangled. Themas Vaughn, section master at Jamisons has thc effects of tho de ceased in his possession. THE FAIR.-lt was very generally known that the present week- was to be thc great exhibition of our county Agricultural and Mechanical Asso ciation. This, with other exhibitions too numerous to mention, has made the present week one of unusual in terest in our thriving burg. Thc committe descry great, credit for the excellent arrange?..ont madc^for the exhibition of the association, and the people for their energy and Indiistr> under dinicultics in contributing such . < a pleasing and excellent variety In I j ?ll departments. No ono would infer ? ni ut tending tina exhibition that our I ?ounty had been subject to a disus .erous drought during tho pn?t sum- i uer. We never saw liner potatoes, lorn, wheat, nee and cotton than vere the specimen, herc shown. The adios, especial!, . presented a g rai d lisplay. Busy hands guided hy [skill ind care, gave us a line showing bf ,hc useful and ornamental. cLil'e'r, leeessilics, comforts and luxuries md all been duly considered, and vonderfully supplied by woman's ?ste and woman's work. Taking tile :ollcetion as. a winde, there were dended in this exhibition more that 'rows by careful culture and is inan ifactured by skillful labor, than und ine could have reasonably anticipa ed under the circumstances in which hese contributions have been placed. We nero glad to notice the great iiiproveuieht in stock, compared with .bc exhibition of last year. There vas such a showing of swine, sheep ind cattle as lo indicate that tho im provements in blooded stock had not icon entirely overlooked. It indica ted, however, but slightly, what is possible with the facilities within the reach of our farmers hero for stock raising. "Wc hope this valuable association will take courage from the success they have already achieved in this good work. Skilled labor is what is greatly needed to develop our ample resources. Such innocent comp?ti tion as is herc encouraged will have a tendency lo produce this;,. Our? ag ricultural products and cherished in dustries must be thrown out of thc edd ruts in which they have so long been sul'oicd' to wear the"; beaton track.
