It is an example that our miuli-millionairs iglit well follow. To be sure y< u often see in the newspapers an account of soiim wealthy person donating a very large sum of money to tin already wealthy institution, but it is seldom, very seldom, that we read or hear of any of these wealthy individuals e< ntributing to the support of those ins'itutions that are needy. It is a matter of helping those that can I alp ti.emf As an exception, Mr. Carnegie seems to be departing from this apparently, well established rule hy giving to cities in different parts of the country large sums of money, to esNothing ^i^r^ests Itself to more needed throughout our land, tlian libraries to which all rlnrtes who know how to behave thcniselvc, can PB^ hive access. It is one of the greatest [ works of philanthropy tli.it has been <ommeneed for some time. Not only has it had a very glorious Leginning, but it is being carried to a successful issue as rapidly as brain ami wealth can take it. r Mr. Carnegie's latest gift, we b-.licve, was to Macon, Oa.. for t he p irp -se of erecting a library. This is a matter that the business men of Uatcsburg should consider and weigh well; because it concerns tho prosperity of their town; and the progress of a town is the progress of its people. A new view of the possibilities oi newsj apt-r iul\e m'ng is a Horded in Burlington, Vermont, wlnre "every local banking institution advertises with as much spirit and enterprise asa department store."Cue of these banks, among the olde.-t and mo-t conservative in I lie State, changes itsadvertis?ments every day, and "besides telling | what it can do for people, gives good adyice which leads them to save money.''
