? PROF. S. J. DERRICK NEWBERRY'S PRESIDENT The board of trustees of Newberry colege met Monday afternoon and among other business trasacted elected a president to succeed Dr. J. H. Harms, who will leave about the 15th instant for Philadelphia to assume ? sc nnstor of the Church of | the Holy Communion of that city, || one of the largest and most influents tial Lutheran churches in America, jl The board unanimously selected | Prof. S. J. Derrick for president I of the college, but for certain rea| sons' did not announce their decision I until Tuesday morning. I t Prof. Sidney J. Derrick has been I " I connected with the college for 22 | years, and is peculiarly fitted to fill the position as president of the instir tution. He for several years was at the head of the preparatory de-' l * partment, later taking up the da partment of history and economics. Prof. Derrick is a native of Lexing ton county, having been born near little Mountain and is about 50 years of age. He is a son of J. J. r Derrick and Martha Kesler Derrick j f He graduated from Newberry college in 1892, and was prepared for col lege by Prof. E. 0.
