Entered as second-class matter April 18Q1 rinriAr Act nf March 3. 1879. $2.00 PER YEAR. Volume 29. . No. 26. Thursday, June 24,1920. ROCK HILL. It would be useless for The Herald to print a detailed story of the meeting of the South Carolina press association, as the matters that come before the press meeting concern only newspaper men. The writer attended the annual meeting of the association in Rock Hill June 9 and 10, and the only purpose of this editorial is to call attention to some of the things that strike a visitor to Rock Hill. vThe meeting was held at Winthrop college, that monument to Senator B. R. Tillman. As is well known to intimate friends of the late Senator Tillman, Winthrop and Clemson were his first love. Winthrop college occu\ pies a large and beautiful campus, and it is truly a big institution. It is no wonder that the students of Winthrop come home with new and higher, ideals, for the surroundings are ideal. What impressed the writer most was the democratic principles that prevail in the institution, and to our mind it is just such democracy that will save the nation. Every student in Winthrop is equal, so far as environment is concerned. Here everything that should interest the modern woman, teacher and home maker are taught, and that great work is accomplished at Winthrop is - attested by the fact that in every community, every rural district some Winthrop girl is to be found, and where there is a Winthrop girl the chances are about nine to one that high ideals are found. The town of Rick Hill is a live place. It has a real chamber of commerce, and, what appears to be even a lira Rnforv nlnK TVn-v "D <-? wurVi , w *1 ? v xvv/tui j v.iu u, I I1C?
