W&t pamforg peralh! ESTABLISHED APRIL, 1891. I Published Weekly at Bamberg, S. C. j Entered as second-class matter April 1891, under Act of March 3, 1879. "$2.00 PER YEAR. Volume 2S. No. 42. Thursday, October 23, 1919 PUT BAMBERG OX THE MAP. We have heard a great deal about putting Bamberg on the map lately. She now has the best opportunity she has ever had of being "put on the map." The chance of a lifetime is now presented to the city of Bamberg. As one lady very aptly expressed it the other day, Bamberg ? J ^ViTT win Gimer biauu ui uc x uiutu uj i whatever action the people take in the matter of malaria eradication. The United States government comes forward with the offer to co-operate with the people to get rid of the worst curse that is on Bamberg. To refuse this offer simply means that we are to advertise to the world that we care nothing for our own health, and that the only method we wish to pursue in inducing new capital and new residents to Bamberg is one of deception. But the people refuse to be deceived. When one goes about seeking a new home, the first consideration will be the health of the community he is investigating. What sort of advertisement will it be when he learns that Bamberg refused, for the sake of a few thousand dollars, to remove an affliction the entire country knows exists here? On the other hand what will be the impression of a homeseeker when he inquires of the United States government?as thousands of people do? and learns that just' as quick as the offer was made, the people of this town responded enthusiastically with the result that the town was cleared of malaria? It will create, most certanly, the impression that Bamberg is a thoroughly live town, that it looks after not only her business in'i terests but takes the necessary precautions to safeguard the public ' health. Bamberg will stand or fall, in our very candid opinion, on the action that it takes on this momentous matter. Bamberg has had thousands to give to all worthy objects in the past. Let this home charity, that means life or death to the people and to the t^vn, be not passed up. ' Are you interested in Bamberg? Are you interested in the health of the town; your own health? Then don't fail to attend the mass meeting of citizens at the court house this, Thursday, afternoon at six o'clock. Captain Fisher, of the United States public health service and the State hoard of health, will be present and explain to the people just what is necessary to rid Bamberg of malaria. A. B.
