Seay 18.25 i'hvananh' has realized the import* ant e of the Turper County Plan of the dairy cow, hog and chicken and since the late Geo. H. Betts, originator of this idea, was in Savannah several mouths ago, when he spoke before a large gathering of the Savannah Boardof Trade, much interest has been manifested in poultry raising. The Chktham County Poultry and Pigeon ▲saoclation will have full management of the poultry show at the Savannah Tri-State Exposition, October 27 • No vember I, and this body has been glv- •n exclusive use of the Johnson build ing to display the birds. There U keen interest in these varieties, end It is believed that more birds will be entered from these breeds than was ex hibited in the whole show last year. Co-operation of many poultry clubi has been assured and the Ueorglt Red Club has already Indicated that more than three hundred birds from that association will be shipped to 8a vannah, October 27. O. C. Smith, sec retary of the club, has pledged the support of his body. F. L. Many ftae herds of purebred stock have been built up In this district. The success that hat come from thls'has given the owners much encouragement and not a few have made reservations for their stock at the Tri-State Exposition this year. Department of Agriculture of Georgia has also done much to as sist the farmers in raising the stand- nxd of their cattle. It Is known that brought their herds to Savannah last year, aad the many newcomers, the Tri State Exposition will have this de partment on a parity with the largest. To give those who have traveled through this section stopping at all the large fairs ah opportunity to get their entry papers In at the last min ute, the closing date for the livestock department has been placed at Oc tober 25. Columbia, Oct. ld.-*~Gpvernor Mc Leod tonight paroled IneTl Johnson, of Barnwell County, because he was a nuisance and^was not wanted on the* county chain gang. The petition came from the county authorities who said that the prisoner had had a stroke and was helpless and a care to the authorities. It happens now that the pendulum ia swinging back to conditions similar to those of the ’80s, when this section experi enced its first daytime blixxard which the generation at that time had yeen and the “oldest inhabitant” remem bered that had occurred in previous winters. I n December, 1884, the Dutch Pfophet saw a field of oats turn black from the effects of the blizzard one afternoon—perfectly green at 2 o’clock and as black 18- one’s hat within two hours. The word blizzard was not in use in this section before that date. “Along with the cold win'er this year will come five snows south and east of the Blue Ridge. One of these snows at least has the promise of being of heavy precipitation and'wide extent, and the latter condition, it is .expected, will take in Columbia. I give a large clientele of young folk that abundant promise. ^ “Another condition of the winter will be no lack of rain.
